The first poem — Ādi Kāvya

Ramayana

रामायणम्

Sage Vālmīki’s song of Rāma — prince of Ayodhyā, exiled to the forest, parted from his beloved Sītā, and faithful unto dharmathrough every trial. Read here in Ralph T. H. Griffith’s flowing English verse, canto by canto, with each line preserved as he rendered it.

More to come

The later books — Kishkindhā, Sundara, Yuddha and Uttara Kāṇḍa— and the remaining cantos of the Araṇya Kāṇḍa are being transcribed from Griffith’s edition. We add each one as a clean, proofread text becomes available rather than ship a poor scan.

English verse translation by Ralph T. H. Griffith, The Rámáyan of Válmíki (1870–1874), public domain, via Wikisource. Footnotes from the original edition are omitted.
